11 arrested in international drugs swoop

THE HAGUE, May 13 (AFP) - Dutch authorities working together with police from France, Belgium and Luxembourg arrested 11 people during a swoop on drug traffickers, police here said Thursday.

THE HAGUE, May 13 (AFP) - Dutch authorities working together with police from France, Belgium and Luxembourg arrested 11 people during a swoop on drug traffickers, police here said Thursday.

The action was held on Wednesday and targeted drug traffickers and
tourists who smuggle small amounts of drugs from the Netherlands to their home countries. The operation involved more than 600 police and customs officers from the four countries, the police in the southern town of Breda said in a press release.

Together with the 11 people arrested in the Netherlands, an Italian man was arrested on the border between Luxembourg and France with 5.5 kilos (11 pounds) of cocaine.

According to Dutch police the man had bought the cocaine in Amsterdam and was planning to smuggle it into Italy.

Several weapons along with about 1.5 kilos (3.3 pounds) of cannabis and
more than EUR 4,000 (USD 4,700) were also seized by the authorities.
