Photo story: Through the eyes of Expatica readers 30/05/2008 00:00
With our newly-created Expatica Flickr account, readers give us a glimpse into their lives and their worlds.
Living abroad can be challenging. There will always be moments where you suffer from random pangs of homesickness - be it a whiff of homemade cookies or the sight of a group of friends hanging out.
No matter how hard you try, your cookies will never taste like Mummy’s, and although you may have good friends in town, they will always feel different from friends back home.
With people back home, the connection is powerful and unbreakable. There is always the need to connect with them, to be in touch with them and to be in their lives as much as they are in yours.
This explains why Ann West takes pictures of everything - from the tulips in her house to a market in Leiden.
"Taking pictures is my way of keeping my friends in the loop. I want them to know what's going on in my life," says the American currently living in the Netherlands. "And they do the same too - I receive pictures from them constantly so I know who is who in their lives."
Indeed, as sharing photos becomes easier with the countless photo programmes popping up all over the Internet, sharing photos has become almost an art-form. So sit back, relax and share the experiences of fellow Expatica readers.

- Hi, I'm an American with a long stay visa living in France with my fiance. We will marry this Spring. I keep reading about all the changes to the medical system in France and want to make sure that, once married to a French citizen who works for the train system, that I will be fully covered by the french medical system. I want to make sure that as a foreign citizen I am not exempted as I have read about UK citizens coming to France and not being covered any longer by the medical system with all the reforms. Thanks for your help. Cynthia Hi , Yes is the reply notify the CPAM here in France so that you can be included on the health vital card of your husband.
