You have just been offered your first job in France but can't make sense of what's the difference between a CDD and CDI? Here's a guide to clarify the many types of French job contracts. Updated 2011.

Some argue that it is a cynical way of attacking the rigid employment protection laws, and it may be. But for me, as an occasional freelance translator, it is fantastic. Years ago, you you had to pay out the nose based on incomprehensible calculations and projections, regardless of how much you'd earned or not earned.
