- Are they kidding? Maybe it is different in the Netherlands, but while I was living in the US, I learned that the cheese in McDonald's sandwiches is what they call "American cheese," which is not cheese at all but fat with coloring. The consistency is not even of cheese, much less cheddar! McDonald's says it uses real cheese, 05/09/2008 02:42
- My husband Indian guitarist Prasanna and I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Pierre. He was a warm hearted and lovely person. His memory and his music will carry on.

As we were there for just 3 weeks, we never felt 'cut off' from the USA, as we would return all too soon. As for French produce, I found in village markets the variety and freshness of the produce to be fantastic! WE lived in LA for 10 years and I never thought the produce there was anything very special, even at the open air markets in neighborhoods... but the variety of Asian restaurants was astounding. We lived in Hong Kong for three years, so I am very 'spoiled' by that culinary experience and a harsh critic when it comes the Chinese places! Paris has wonderful Vietnamese and other 'ethnic' restaurants, and we frequented our favorite at least once a week! when we lived there. While in Provence, I cooked many of the dishes I prepare at home, and I will say the veal and chicken and fish were much better than normal! As for missing food from home, why or have your loved ones send you a care package? or better yet, how about a visit to wherever home is in California! Bon voyage... judi Comfort Food for Expat, 03/09/2008 11:19
