Police free hostages in Corsican post office 03/10/2006 00:00

AJACCIO, Corsica, Oct 3, 2006 (AFP) - Elite French police Monday stormed a post office in Corsica to overpower an armed man who had taken up to four people hostage, the state prosecutor on the Mediterranean island said.

The hostages were all unhurt, prosecutor Jose Thorel told AFP.

The hostage-taker, a man in his 30s armed with a pistol that fired ball bearings, had a police record. He was forced to the floor by officers as he was pushing one of the hostages in front of him towards the door, an officer said.
