France willing to join Iraq peace conference 01/03/2007 00:00

PARIS, Feb 28, 2007 (AFP) - France is willing to join a high-level conference on bringing peace to Iraq that aims to include regional players and their western rivals, the French foreign minstry said on Wednesday.

Iraq earlier fixed a date of March 10 for the security conference.

"France has always affirmed that the states neighbouring Iraq have an important role to play to contribute to the stabilisation of that country and the preservation of its territorial integrity," a ministry statement said.

As well as France, Iraq has also invited the four other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- Russia , China, Britain and the US -- plus regional neighbours such as Iran and Syria.
