Countryside life attracts more urban residents 04/06/2007 00:00
A study shows that the trend of relocation from rural to urban areas has ended and is now replaced by an opposite tendency.
According to the latest figures from the INSEE, cities have lost 72 residents for every 10,000 inhabitants between 1999 and 2004 while towns and villages gained 88.
Amongst these new rural residents 18 percent are newly retired, 41 percent seek employment or want to start their own business and the other are casually called 'rurbain', people who leave in the country but work in cities.
All seek a better quality of life and want to benefit from living in the country where, despite what most think, one can enjoy a rich cultural and social life. Candidates are often couples in their 30s with young children and seek more space and calm.
