MADRID - A missing Belgian yacht has been found empty and drifting in the western Mediterranean along with the body of one two people who had been on board, Spanish rescue services said Monday.

The boat, The White Angel, was spotted by a plane on Sunday about 64 kilometres off the Balearic island of Minorca, a spokeswoman for the Maritime Rescue service said.

The body of one of two people who had been on board, a Frenchman of about 60, was later found at sea off the port of Estartit on the northeastern coast of the Spanish mainland.

Spanish media said the 18-metre yacht had left Port-Leucate in southern France with two people on board. Emergency services said it was reported missing on Friday.

The Maritime Rescue service was continuing to search for the second person, the spokeswoman said.
