French students protest after knife fight 28/03/2008 00:00

Students at a school in northern France protested on Friday after a 17-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a knife fight.

CALAIS, France, March 28, 2008  - Students at a school in northern
France protested on Friday after a 17-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a
knife fight with another teenager in a row over a scooter.
The boy was listed in serious condition at hospital after he was stabbed in
the heart Thursday and the 16-year-old attacker was picked up by police
shortly after he fled the scene, said Jean-Francois Claisse, director of the
school.
"The police showed up immediately. It all happened very quickly," said
Claisse at the Pierre de Coubertin school for professional trades in the
northern city of Calais.
"It appears that this happened because of a disagreement over a scooter,"
said Claisse.
Between 150 and 200 students staged a demonstration against the violence
and to show support for the wounded boy, one of the demonstrators told AFP.
