French minister dissolves hardline fan groups 18/04/2008 00:00

Interior minister bans radical supporters groups of PSG, Metz after they displayed acts of racism.

18 April 2008

PARIS - French Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said Thursday she had decided to dissolve radical supporters groups of two first division football clubs in the face of outbreaks of racist behaviour in recent weeks.

Alliot-Marie dissolved Paris St Germain's renowned Boulogne Boys faction after they were blamed for draping insulting banners at the Stade de France and also banned the Faction Metz after racist incidents marred the match between Lyon and Metz on 23 February.

"I have signed decrees of administrative dissolution and these have been passed on to the prime minister," Alliot-Marie said.

Earlier this month, three Paris Saint Germain supporters were charged with "provoking hate or violence during a sporting event" after a controversial banner insulting rivals Lens at the French League Cup final.
