Madrid | 14/05/2009 - 03/05/2009 Tarsila do Amaral

The first solo presentation of the work of the Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973), a key figure in Brazilian painting and responsible for the introduction of the European avant-garde into that country. The show comprises 50 paintings and drawings and focuses on the work of the artist’s middle period in the 1920s, when she travelled between São Paolo and Paris, with a symbolic conclusion in Moscow. The exhibition emphasizes her connections with the avant-garde in Paris, her training with painters such as André Lhote and Fernand Léger, and her friendship with some of the French avant-garde poets such as Blaise Cendrars.
