Barcelona | 14/05/2009 - 31/05/2009 Els grans viatges de Zheng He (The Great Voyages of Zheng He)

Exhibition exploring the Chinese expansion across the Indian Ocean and the voyages of discovery led by the admiral and explorer Zheng He in the 15th century. Among the objects on show are models of the sailing ships, navigation instruments, Ming dynasty porcelain, stones, printed maps and tales of Zheng He's voyages, complimented by audiovisual material and animated maps, to help visitors learn more about the key figures from this period and the commercial routes. One of the expeditions that sailed the Indian Ocean during a 30-year period was made up of 255 large Chinese ships manned by 27,000 sailors. They were led by Zheng He San Bao, a eunuch sent by Emperor Yongle to explore the ocean and who was one of the brains behind China's maritime expansion.
