Bilbao | 08/06/2009 - 31/05/2009 ©Murakami

The most comprehensive retrospective to date dedicated to the Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami (b. 1962), presenting his particular universe, a fusion of traditional Japanese art, contemporary Japanese pop culture such as ‘anime’ (cartoons) and ‘manga’ (comics), American Pop and European Surrealism. Occupying 2,000 square meters of exhibition space, the third floor of the Guggenheim Museum chronologically traces Murakami’s career, showcasing his work in sculpture, painting, fashion, animation and merchandising. In conjunction with the sinuous luminous spaces of the Frank Gehry building, Murakami's work takes on a new dimension.
