MADRID – French football player Zinedine Zidane has said he wants to continue living in Madrid, despite his announcement on Tuesday to retire from football.

Zidane, one of Real Madrid's biggest current stars, told a crowded press conference at Madrid's Ciudad Deportiva that although he intends to leave the football club, he wants to continue working with it in some capacity.

"I'm giving up football but I'd like to continue with Madrid," he said. "I've spoken to the president and the project we have is to do something with children. It's an idea we have to think about and if we can do something, we will.

"I don't know if you can use the word ambassador, but if the club wants, we can do something."

The press conference was Zidane's "official" announcement that he would leave Real, although he announced the decision first in France.

"For the moment, I'll stay living in Madrid," he said.
