Zapatero sends off Olympic hopefuls in style
Spanish prime minister says Spain will show it is in the golden age of sports in the send-off event hosted for the athletes on Tuesday.30 July 2008
MADRID - Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero Tuesday at Moncloa Palace hosted a send-off event for some 100 athletes en route to the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Riding on the back of a tremendous year for Spanish sports, the politician said he held "the utmost conviction that these will be the best Games in the country's history".
At the ceremony, also attended by the Education and Sports Minister Mercedes Cabrera, and Olympic Committee leader Alejandro Blanco, Zapatero said: "we are going to show that Spain is in a golden age of sports."
