17 August 2007, MADRID (EFE) – A total of 580 people died in work accidents in Spain in the first six months of this year, 89 fewer than a year earlier, said the labour ministry.

MADRID (EFE) – A total of 580 people died in work accidents in Spain in the first six months of this year, 89 fewer than a year earlier, said the labour ministry.

According to the Bulletin of Labour Statistics, 419 died in the workplace and 161 died on their way to or from work.

There were 888,837 accidents in the workplace in Spain between January and June of this year, 1.5 percent fewer than the same period last year.

Some 510,302 people had to be signed off after their accident and 4,406 accidents were serious.

A total of 183 deaths took place in the service industry, followed by construction with 138, industry with 74 and farming with 24.
