MADRID – Men outnumber women in senior management positions by 20 to one, it was reported on Wednesday.
The Spanish daily El Pais said in the upper echelons of business women lagged way behind men.
The paper highlighted the example of ACS, the country’s biggest building firm, where an 18-man board has no women and no females are part of the 40-strong management team.
It comes after the socialist government introduced an Equality Law this month.
It will offer incentives to companies which ensure that four in ten board members are women within eight years.
If they comply, they will be given preference when bidding for public contracts.
