Many people cringe when opening their phone bill, but a young woman from Huelva will be more wary from now on.

HUELVA - Many people cringe when opening their phone bill, but a young woman from Huelva will be more wary from now on.

Vanessa Segura, 20, a resident of Ayamonte on the Portuguese border, was hit with a EUR 46,733.96 cell phone bill from Vodafone for roaming charges during 11-20 September last year.

For reasons that are unclear, Vodafone believed Segura was connected to its Portuguese network rather than to its Spanish one. The company had billed her for hours of internet use at international rates.

Vodafone cancelled the charges after complaints from Segura and Ayamonte.
