MADRID-A woman was killed in a head-on crash after driving the wrong-way along a major road near Madrid.
The 43-year-old, who has not been named, died in the crash on Wednesday night at Alcorcon, to the west of the capital.
The driver of the other car was seriously injured.
Fifteen drivers called police to warn that a "kamikaze" driver was going the wrong way along the M-501 road.
Seven minutes after the last call, the crash happened.
The woman was trapped in her red Hyundai Accent car as was the male driver of the other vehicle, a Renault Megane Scenic.
She died at the scene but the other driver was rescued from the wreckage and taken to hospital.
The survivor, who is also 43, suffered a broken shoulder, femur, tibia and fibula, but doctors said he was not in a critical condition.
The road in which the crash happened is dual carriageway with a fence separating the two lanes of traffic.
It was not clear why the woman had started driving the wrong way or for how long she had been travelling before the crash happened.
