MALAGA – Police arrested the wife of the man said to be at the centre of Spain’s biggest ever civic corruption case.
Rosa Jimeno was detained on Wednesday at her home near Malaga.
Police said the daughter and brother-in-law of Roca, and a third person, were also arrested.
Jimeno’s husband, Juan Antonio Roca, is the former head of urban planning and said to be at the centre of a multi-million euro fraud involving council officials in Marbella allegedly taking bribes in return for illegal deals with property developers.
The investigation, codenamed Operation Malaya, began in March last year with the arrest of the former mayor, Roca, a series of council officials, property developers and lawyers.
Police claim a series of international groups were laundering cash through property deals in the Costa del Sol.
The Spanish government dissolved Marbella city council because of the scale of the fraud and the authority is being managed by officials.
Jimeno was arrested on suspicion of money-laundering and released on bail.
