PALENCIA — A married couple was killed on Tuesday when a wife tried to stop her husband taking his life and both were run over by a train.
The husband was about to throw himself in front of a high-speed train in Monzon de Campos, when his wife tried to pull him back.
The tragedy took place at about 12.15pm near the town's station.
The man was seen walking towards a level crossing when the train between Madrid and Santander was approaching.
He fell on the ground and put his head on the track.
His wife, seeing what had happened tried to pull her husband back and was also killed in the process.
The train stopped at the station while a police investigation got underway.
No-one else was hurt.
The reason for the husband's suicide were not clear.
