MADRID - Three people were killed over the weekend as a spate of murders shocked residents in Madrid, Girona and Majorca.

The first killing occurred on Saturday night when a 23-year-old man was shot in the head in Arganda del Rey, a suburb of Madrid. The three suspected killers were arrested minutes after following a police chase.

Hours later, early Sunday, a 26-year-old British man was stabbed to death in the municipality of Calvía on Majorca. The two alleged assailants were later arrested at Palma de Majorca airport trying to board a plane.

The third murder occurred at 4.30am Sunday outside a Girona nightclub. A 21-year-old man from the Dominican Republic was shot in the head with a homemade firearm. Two people were arrested soon afterward, and three others who had fled the scene were detained yesterday.
