MALAGA/ALGECIRAS - The strong winds that have been affecting the Andalusian coast for the last six days have caused around EUR 1 million of damage so far, prompting sources within the affected sectors to call it "the worst weather seen in the last five years."

The coastguard reported yesterday that winds were exceeding speeds of 100km per hour, something that led to the cancellation of 60 crossings scheduled by the ferry companies that operate in the area.

The fishing industry has also been affected, as well as businesses such as seafront restaurants, which have been battered by the winds and rain.

Sources from the coastguard said yesterday that the bad weather, which began last Friday, should ease by tomorrow, but that on Saturday more strong winds will return.
