SPAIN - The Spanish budget airline said on Tuesday it carried 1.41 million passengers in the first three months of the year, an increase of 32.1 percent over the same period a year earlier.

However, the carrier's load factor dropped 1.9 points to 65.0 percent. Vueling said the fall in its load factor was offset by an increase in revenues per passenger, which were higher per flight in the first quarter of 2007.

In a statement to the National Securities Commission, Vueling said its aim is to increase revenues per flight even if this involves a drop in its load factor.

In March alone, the airline carried 539,042 passengers, an increase of 33 percent compared with the same month last year. The load factor in the month under review was up 1.6 points at 72.4 percent. Vueling is currently in merger talks with its domestic rival Clickair.
