27 October 2006
VALENCIA — Valencia FC are to earn EUR 100 million in a land deal with the city council over their new stadium.
When the club moves to a new stadium, it will sell the land which is destined for 750 new homes.
The Spanish daily El Pais reported it will need EUR 200m to build its new stadium, leaving it EUR 100m richer.
The city council is set to approve the plan on Friday despite complaints from the opposition EU –L'Entensa and neighbourhood associations in Valencia.
The EU-L'Entensa and neighbourhood associations claim it is a purely financial deal to make the club more money.
But they say it will leave the city with more congestion and noise.
