Unemployment falls by 5.1 percent

MADRID – Unemployment in Spain has fallen by 5.1 percent, according to the latest figures from the Active Population Survey (EPA).
The number of jobless fell by 98,000 in the second quarter of this year, to 1,837,000 at the end of June, 8.53 percent of the active population.
In the last 12 months, unemployment has fallen by 107,700 people, 5.54 percent, while the number of people in work has increased by 798,200, over 4 percent.
A total of 293,000 jobs were created between April and June, meaning the numbers of people in work grew to 19,693,100 at the end of June.
The largest increases in employment levels have taken place in the Balearic Isles, Catalonia, the Valencia region and Andalucia.
However, in Madrid unemployment rose by 35,900 people.
