MADRID — The first gay wedding in the Spanish military is to take place this summer, it was reported on Wednesday.
Two privates in the Air Force are to tie the knot.
The men's family names were not identified but the men share the first name Alberto and are based in Seville.
"We know we are in the armed forces and this is touchy because we are not gardeners but rather soldiers. I know there are superior officers who will make life difficult for me, and they are already doing so," said one of the men told a Seville radio station.
The military said that it was aware of the wedding but considered it a private affair.
The men can wear their uniforms.
But the couple said will wear civilian clothes "so as not to antagonize the military".
Same-sex marriage became legal in Spain last year.
The first gay divorce was announced this week.
