MADRID – Two men believed to have been involved in last year's Madrid bombings were arrested near the French-Belgian border in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Heavily-armed French police went to a redbrick home in the province of Wervicq-sud, about 15 km from Lille.

They took a Moroccan and his son, who has French nationality, into custody in Lille.

Sources close to the operation said the police had been acting on information given them by their Spanish counterparts investigating the 2004 massacre.

The identities of the two men have not yet been made public.
