Two Britons drown in swimming accident in Spain

A British man and woman in their 20s drowned while swimming off the beach at Llarga de Salou during the night.

Barcelona – A British man and a woman drowned on Wednesday as they were swimming in rough seas off northeastern Spain, police said.

They were among a group of five British holidaymakers who went swimming off the beach at Llarga de Salou, around 150 kilometres (100 miles) south of Barcelona, during the night,

A rescue operation was launched at around 2:30am after two of them were reported missing. Their bodies were later found washed up on the beach, a police spokesman said.

He identified the two as Marc William B, 29 and Michele C, 24, but did not indicate their hometowns.
