BARCELONA – Nine people were arrested after rowdy celebrations in Barcelona following the victory of FC Barcelona over Real Madrid, police said Monday.
Two of those arrested were children.
Fans smashed up restaurants, hurled glasses, cans and bottles and stole property from shops, police sources told EFE.
FC Barcelona beat Real Madrid 2-1 Sunday in the fiercely contested 'derby' between the two teams, called 'El Clasico'.
The incidents started after 11.30pm Sunday when a crowd of at least 150 fans, mostly Barcelona supporters, took to the streets in the Catalan capital.
One fight happened in a restaurant when fans threw cans, bottles and other missiles at rival supporters.
Four police officers were injured trying to quell the trouble.
Police said a group of about 400 people broke windows, vandalised telephone boxes vandalised and emptied four rubbish bins in Las Ramblas, one of Barcelona's main streets.
A police car was also damaged. At another restaurant, the blinds were smashed and diners could not escape the trouble.
