MADRID-The price of tickets on public transport in Madrid will rise by an average of six percent next year, it was announced.
Tickets with Metrobus, however, will increase by 13 percent, a price hike which has been criticised by users' groups.
Over the past six years, transport prices in the Spanish capital have risen by 30 percent.
The price rises on public transport in 2005 are much higher than last year, when ticket prices went up by 2.8 percent.
The increases in the cost of public transport provoked a political row with the city's Transport adviser, Francisco Granados blaming Economy Minister Pedro Solbes for initiating the increases.
Granados said Madrid city council should pay for the restructuring of the Metro, being carried out by the Mintra company.
