BARCELONA — Three youths have been arrested for burning alive a homeless woman who was sleeping in a bank doorway.
María Rosario E.P, 50, died from her injuries in hospital, after the three youths set her on fire "for fun".
The attack happened in Sarria, one of Barcelona's most exclusive areas, last Friday, but police only made the details public on Tuesday.
The youths, one of whom is only 16, started insulting the victim, then began hitting and three hours later, returned to finally set her on fire.
They were arrested after security cameras caught the incident on film.
Police sources said the three appeared to set the woman on fire "for no other reason but to amuse themselves".
She had been in the doorway of the bank trying to seek refuge from the cold.
The victim suffered second and third degree burns on 65% of her body and died hours later in hospital.
The three were due to appear in court this week. None had any previous convictions.
