2 December 2004
MADRID-Three workers have died after being trapped in the foundations of homes they were building.
The accident happened on a building site in Cobena, a town five kilometres outside of Madrid.
The emergency services were called just after 1.30pm by other workers.
A team of firefighters, a helicopter and a digger were used to try to save the three men.
Fire service sources said the three men were inside the building when they were buried by a large quantity of earth.
The three men were not named, but two were known to be have been aged between 30 and 40.
It was thought heavy rain over the past two days in Madrid may have caused the building to cave in because the earth nearby had become softer.
