CORDOBA - Thirty-two jewellers were arrested for evading income tax on gold purchases on Friday.

Twenty-six were in police custody and were expected to appear in court. Others have been released on bail.

The arrests were part of Operation Phoenix, which has been underway since last November against VAT non-payments on gold.

Other suppliers of gold in the Andalusian city have also been detained in the past.
