BARCELONA - The third major power cut to hit Spain in less than a week left some 10,000 Barcelona residents without electricity.
The power cut was caused by a fire in an underground service tunnel in central Barcelona, Fecsa-Endesa officials said.
Service to several neighbourhoods was disrupted after technicians had to disconnect power lines, and the blaze also disrupted telephone service.
Some 250,000 people in central and southern Madrid were left without power last Thursday after a fire broke out at an electrical substation.
Earlier this week, a substation transformer caught fire in southern Spain, leaving 1 million people in the region without power for more than an hour.
