VALENCIA — Authorities said on Wednesday a tanker had accidentally leaked oil into the sea off Gandia, near Valencia.

The authorities at the Port of Gandia have activated a emergency plan to limit any damage to the sea and wildlife.

Sources said a black 'stain' of 100 square metres by 40sqm was visible.

But boats have been deployed to stop this spreading.

The incident happened at about 6am when the boat ´Nova Franc´ was taking on oil.

Liduvina Gil, port spokesman, said it appeared a pipe slipped into the water without crew members noticing.
