Syrian leader visits Spain
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived in Spain Sunday for a two-day official visit that follows a tour of Latin America.
Assad and his delegation toured the city of Toledo, the country's picturesque former capital, accompanied by Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos after arriving at Madrid's airport, Spanish media said.
He is to have dinner later Sunday with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia at the royal palace.
On Monday, Assad will hold talks with Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
His visit follows a tour of Latin America that took in Venezuela, where he met President Hugo Chavez, as well as Cuba, Brazil and Argentina.
