STOCKHOLM - Although Spain is favoured to win Saturday's group D match against Sweden in the Euro 2008 tournament, Sweden can perhaps pin its hopes on a lucky date, the Aftonbladet tabloid reported Friday.

Saturday is 14 June - a date that on two earlier occasions has proved lucky for Sweden, the paper said.

In 1992, Sweden that hosted the tournament won its first match in a European Championship, defeating arch rivals (and 1992 surprise champions) Denmark 1-0.

On 14 June 2004, Sweden trounced Bulgaria 5-0 in its opener at the Euro 2004 in Portugal.

The four goal scorers - Fredrik Ljungberg, Henrik Larsson (who scored two goals), Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Allback - are all on the current Swedish squad.
