SEVILLE - Aena airport workers organised strikes at Spain's main airports Wednesday.

The workers were protesting at the contracting out of many services by the company.

Unions encouraged workers to strike for half an hour as a preview to the seven full days organised by the labour unions on 5, 7, 9 and 12 March and 2, 7 and 11 April.

The only incident took place at the Seville airport, where employees stopped working for two hours and impeded the fire-fighting services from accessing the runways, resulting in cancellations and delays of several flights.

The strike committee is continuing negotiations with Aena to reach an agreement on employment guarantees, and will observe the set strike days until the company signs changes it plans on subcontracting or outsourcing.

A spokesman for Aena said negotiations with the unions would continue.
