MADRID - Torrential rains, lighting and storms near Madrid caused travel chaos for thousands.
Thirty flights from Barajas Airport were cancelled or delayed for up to six hours as the weather stopped planes arriving or leaving.
Flooding on the roads, particularly the A-30 ring road around the capital, caused widespread delays and even left many motorists stranded as their vehicles were flooded.
The AVE high speed train from Madrid to Lerida had to be stopped near the capital, leaving hundreds waiting for hours.
The storms blew up late on Sunday afternoon.
