MADRID — The traditional escape to the ski slopes during next week's national holiday may be cancelled due to lack of snow.

Warm temperatures have meant slopes in the Pyrenees and Andorra are largely without snow.

The weather forecast for next Wednesday's national holiday for Constitution Day is not good, with just grey skies and little chance of snow falling.

Skiiers were checking the web cams of resorts to see if there was any change, reported the Spanish daily El Mundo.

Paloma Garcia-Pacha, director of the Ski Station and Mountain Resorts Association (Atudem), said the perspective for snow was  "doubtful".

The situation is going to cost the ski industry in areas of Spain like Aragon up to EUR 13 million, estimated the Herald of Aragon newspaper.

Hotels were expecting cancellations of up to 50 percent.
