28 October 2004, MADRID - Spain's trade deficit jumped 40.5 percent in August compared with the same month a year earlier to EUR 5.366 billion, the trade and industry ministry said Thursday.

MADRID - Spain's trade deficit jumped 40.5 percent in August compared with the same month a year earlier to EUR 5.366 billion, the trade and industry ministry said Thursday.

In the eight months between January and August, the deficit expanded 30.5 percent to 37.110 billion euros.

Exports amounted to 8.891 billion euros in August, an annualised increase of 7.5 percent, while imports reached 14.257 million, up 17.9 percent.
