MEXICO CITY — A Spanish tourist has been found murdered in a holiday resort in Mexico.
The semi-naked body of Martha Toullat Vallverde was discovered in the resort of Tulum, about 130 kilometres south of Cancun on Mexico's Caribbean coast.
It appeared she had been the victim of a violent attack.
The 26-year-old, from Barcelona, was found with the body of an Italian, Matias Mezzetti.
Mezzetti, also 26, was from Verona.
Both were found half dressed and had apparently been attacked with blunt weapons.
They had been in Mexico since 18 November and had been staying at a hotel in Tulum since 2 December.
Police said they were following a number of routes of enquiry.
Both victims were seen together for the last time on Thursday last week.
It was not known if they had been surprised by an attacker lor had been befiended by their killer.
Fifteen murder squad detectives are working on the case.
Their bodies are to be returned to their respective countries in the next few days.
