Spanish royal couple to pay state visit to Britain
Spain's King Felipe VI and his wife Letizia will pay a state visit to Britain at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth, the royal palace said Friday, the first such trip in more than 30 years.
The royal couple will stay in Windsor Castle during their stay from March 8 to 10 next year, palace spokesman David Sanchez said.
"It will be more than 30 years since the last state visit, which was in 1986," he added.
Felipe acceded to the throne last year when his father Juan Carlos abdicated, vowing to clean up the Spanish monarchy, which has been hit by a series of scandals including fraud allegations against his sister Cristina and her husband.
The 47-year-old forms a glamorous, modern couple with former television presenter Letizia, 43, whom he married in 2004.
