Spanish police smash hashish network, arrest 65
Spanish police have dismantled an international network which smuggled hashish from Morocco, arresting 65 people and seizing 20 tonnes of the drug, the interior ministry said Friday.
Five boats, about 100 vehicles and some 175 properties were also seized in Spain as part of the operation, the ministry said in a statement.
"The organisation had a massive infrastructure in Morocco," it said.
The gang used a "mother boat" from which the drugs were taken in small quantities to smaller vessels.
Many of the gang's clients were in Italy and the Netherlands, the statement said.
The 65 people arrested were from Spain, Algeria, Colombia and Morocco.
Spain is one of the main entry points for drugs into Europe, including hashish from northern Africa and cocaine from Latin America.
