Spanish police detain Briton with 5,000 ecstasy pills

Police in Spain Friday detained on drugs charges a 20-year-old British man found to have over 5,000 ecstasy pills in his hotel room on the holiday island of Ibiza, they said in a statement.

Madrid - Police in Spain Friday detained on drugs charges a 20-year-old British man found to have over 5,000 ecstasy pills in his hotel room on the holiday island of Ibiza, they said in a statement.

The man, identified only as David G., was arrested after he tried to enter a nigtclub in the town of San Antonio with 176 ecstasy tablets and three packages containing crystal meth.

Police then searched the hotel room where he was staying and found another 5,248 ecstasy tablets.

The Balearic Island of Ibiza in the Mediterranean is traditionally a magnet for thousands of British and German holidaymakers who are drawn to its sandy beaches and vibrant nightlife.

Ecstasy is a popular drug among club goers.
