Spanish police arrested at least 11 suspected members of a radical Basque group allied with armed separatists ETA in a string of night raids, Spanish media said Friday.

Police swooped on alleged members of the Segi organization in the northern Spanish regions of the Basque Country, Navarre and Catalonia, public television TVE and other media said, quoting anti-terrorist sources.

The operation was still under way just before dawn, they said.

The interior ministry was not immediately available to comment. The Civil Guard declined to discuss the operation.

Police acted under an order of Spanish High Court anti-terrorist judge Fernando Grande Marlaska, TVE said.

Spanish police blame Segi and other radical Basque youth groups of acts of urban anti-state violence such as throwing Molotov cocktails at symbols of the Spanish state.

They are considered by the authorities to be support groups for ETA, which is blamed for the deaths of 829 people in more than 40 years of bombing and shooting for a homeland independent of Spain.
