Spanish police said Friday they had arrested 32 people in operations in 15 provinces and charged another 14 as part of a crackdown on child pornography on the Internet.

In a total of 46 searches they seized 14 computers, 118 hard drives and 911 CDs and DVDs containing thousands of child porn images, police said.

They said the network had been detected when residents of Valencia came across suspect files by chance when surfing the net and reported them.

Spain has in recent years stepped up its fight against Internet pornography, notably with specialised tracking computer software called Hispalis which can uncover the names and addresses of people logged on to illegal Internet sites.

In the past five years more than 1,200 people have been detained in connection with Internet child sex pornography.
