MADRID - The Spanish economy enjoyed continued growth in the in the third quarter, up by 2.6 percent from the same quarter in 2003, the central bank said in a report on Tuesday.

The economy expanded at a "sustained pace" similar to that seen in the first quarter of the year and without significant changes in either domestic or foreign demand, the report said.

Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Solbes estimated two weeks ago that the gross domestic product would increase 2.6-2.7 percent in the July-September period compared with the same period last year.

The first official estimate of GDP growth is to be published on November 24 by the national statistics institute (INE), part of the economy ministry.

The Spanish government is forecasting 2004 GDP growth of 2.8 percent.
