Madrid – Spanish police have arrested a former international footballer and 30 other people for alleged cocaine trafficking, judicial sources said Monday.

Jose Luis Perez Caminero played for Atletico Madrid and Real Valladolid as well as for the Spanish national team in the 1990s. He is accused of cocaine trafficking and money laundering, the sources said.

Thirty other people were arrested in the raids in Madrid and three other cities.

Police said seven luxury vehicles, 570 kilogrammes (1,250 pounds) of cocaine and two million euros were seized. They said the drugs were brought into Spain from Colombia and Mexico.

Spain, with its extensive coastline, is Europe's main entry point for cocaine from South America, mostly from Colombia, the world's top producer of the drug, and for Moroccan cannabis, from which hashish is produced.
